Carole Buschmann                  back to gallery artists

"Drawing and Painting were early tools of communication, exploration and adventure for me. I grew up in the center of Kansas and loved to dream, read and draw. Now as an adult I have continued to dream, explore and immerse my self in art.

I worked for years teaching young children about art and spending summers traveling with friends to Europe and painting what I was experiencing and absorbing. Working with young children helped me to boil my art philosophy to a more meaningful essence. The joy and sometimes struggle I saw children use in the art room became a valuable tool for me in my own work. The teacher is often taught by her students, at least I was."

Carole loved working with the Intaglio print process in college and thought she would always be happy with black, white and gray. When she discovered pastels it was because she was looking for a more portable medium, never dreaming she would love using color so much. Through this portable medium pastel, she also discovered plein aire painting. Sitting in narrow streets and taking the time to look, distill and paint a moment in the afternoon and evening is something she very much enjoys doing

In recent years she has spent time in Guatemala and has come to enjoy the energy and colors of that culture. Trying to catch the artistry that she sees in their weavings is an interesting challenge.

Carole paints on site and in her studio. She uses soft pastels on archival paper. Her work can be seen in several private collections here in Colorado. She is well known for the emotional energy she displays in her pastels. You can often find her in hill towns in Umbria, Italy or southwest France, or in her own garden painting with her pastels.

Carole is a member of the Pastel Society of Colorado and received Honorable Mention in the summer of 2011 in the Colorado Annual Pastel Exhibit. website: website
