Evelyn Valdez Martinez   back to gallery artists

Evelyn first studied art under the tutelage of oil painter, William Johnson, who in turn, took his training with such notable greats as Frank J. Rielly and George Bridgeman at the Art Students League of New York. Evelyn has also studied oil painting at the Art students League of Denver with Kim English, Kevin Weckbach, and Quang Ho, as well as with other artists of national and international reputation; including workshops with Richard Schmid, Ramon Kelley and Ned Jacob. She has studied pastel painting with Daniel Greene and Bruce Gomez.

Evelyn has been an active member of the Art Students League of Denver for over seventeen years, as a student; and serving on their Board of Directors. She was also an officer of the Colorado Artists Association for eight years.

She has worked in the commercial field doing book covers and promotional art for authors who write for Dell and Zebra. Her illustrations also appeared in their magazine publications. Her painting was selected to represent the Denver 10, (for their Wilderness Painted show) in Southwest Art magazine and American Artist magazine, in October 2003. One of her paintings was selected for a cover of the National Hispanic Genealogy magazine.

Her work has been featured in many one-person shows, including the San Luis Museum, in San Luis, Colorado. She was invited to paint their Official Sesquicentennial Painting in 2001. San Luis is the oldest town in Colorado: and also the place where Evelyn has been conducting/instructing Artists Workshops for well over a decade. She has been included in many invitational shows including the Colorado State Capitol Building, the Colorado History Museum, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Museo De Las Americas, the Pueblo Fine Arts Center, and the San Luis Museum, where one of her pieces is in their permanent collection.

The International Museum of Contemporary Masters selected her work for inclusion in their "Salon International 2003" show. She is a member of the Oil Painters Of America and the Portrait Institute of America.

Evelyn's work is now shown at the following galleries: Nichol's Fine Art Gallery, Toas, NM, KD Moore Gallery, Evergreen, CO, special invitationals at Abend Gallery, Denver, CO.; San Luis Museum, San Luis, CO.; Fired Works Gallery, Alamosa, CO., and Framed Image, Denver, CO.
