Chinese and Japanese
furniture items.
Our co-partner, Asian Treasures, imports
18th or 19th century Chinese furniture.
They do not handle any reproductions or
new items. Dr. Carol Betson-Goldstein,
one of the co-directors of Asian
Treasures, lived in Hong Kong for 10
years and returns on buying trips 2-3
times a year. Ms. Lily Appleman, the
other co-owner is a resident of Denver.
Carol says that they are fortunate to
have a Chinese partner with whom they
have done business for over 17 years.
He acquires the furniture and
accessories from villages and cities
throughout China and takes them to his
70,000 foot warehouse located in
Southern China. It is there, from an
inventory of between 25,000-30,000
pieces, that Carol and Lily personally
select the merchandise forAsian
Treasures.
The furniture is cleaned and
restored in the warehouse by workers who
have been specially trained in that art.
Carol states, " Our philosophy is that
each piece should be restored to look
its best but without damaging its'
integrity. In other words, incense burns
and other natural distressing are not
removed but the pieces are cleaned and
restored, not refinished."
Whenever possible, pieces ARE selected
that retain their original hardware and
require minimal repair.
